No one wants to think about death or dying, let alone talking. However, planning ahead can be invaluable. This is where “end of life” care comes into the picture.

End of life ensures people in their last months or years of their lives live as comfortably as possible. It also provides all the support they need during their hardest times.

If you are unsure what end-of-life care is or how to choose the right nursing home care, don’t worry. In this article, we will discuss exactly that. Let’s get started.

What is End of Life Care Nursing?

End of life care nursing refers to caring for people with terminal conditions that have become progressive or incurable. It is for people in their last few months or years of their life, but this timeframe could be difficult to predict.

End of life care helps them live as comfortably as possible and allows them to die with dignity. A good life care nursing home offers emotional support to you, your family, and friends.

How to Determine If a Life Care Nursing Facility is Good for You?

1. Specialized Certification

Ensure that the nursing home’s staff members, including nurses, have specialized training and certification in end of life care. This ensures a higher level of care for you and your family.

Choosing a nursing home with certified professionals will also positively impact patients’ lives and make them as comfortable as possible.

2. Stellar Satisfaction Rate

Are the existing members of the medical nursing home happy? What their family members have to say about the facility? Most nursing homes ask their members to fill a satisfaction form that highlights how happy the members are (or were).

You can also talk to a few people living for a few months to understand if the nursing home can fulfill all your needs.

3. Multiple Facets of Support

Does the nursing home have the resources to take care of spiritual and psychological needs? Does it offer emotional support to your family members and friends?

Many life care nursing homes offer grief counseling for up to 12 months after the loss of your loved one. Additional supports are necessary as they help ensure all your and your loved ones’ needs are met.

4. Affordability

Money plays a major role in determining what services will be available to the end of life care patient. And, depending on the severity of your illness, the cost might increase.

For instance, if your loved one requires a ventilator, the cost will be higher than usual. While you would want your loved one to get the best possible services, it is essential to consider what you can afford.

5. Round the Clock Assistance

A quality end of life care nursing home should be able to quickly respond to any critical situations. Check if your medical nursing home has doctors and nurses available 24/7 to address your loved ones’ critical needs that may arise at any time.

Choosing the right end of life care facility is essential. It helps ensure your loved ones stay happy even in their last moments. Use the five-point checklist mentioned above to qualify the nursing home for your end of life stage.

Comfortable living and nursing home for your loved one.

I just wanted to personally thank Dr. & Mrs. Pandya and Mr. Dasondi for creating an unforgettable 100th birthday celebration for Helen Dougert, our beloved matriarch, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. That special day (May 7) was made complete with the invitation of Edison Mayor Lankey who officially presented "Great-Grandma" with a Proclamation certificate for her centennial birthday. The staff at Embassy Manor went above and beyond with the birthday decor, including balloons, streamers, confetti and even a crown for the birthday girl! Our family was allowed to forget about the ongoing pandemic and return to a sense of normalcy by focusing on the simple things in life...to freely celebrate a milestone with the ones we love the most. We couldn't have asked for a better day for Great-Grandma, who was definitely made to feel special on that momentous day. Please accept our family's most heartfelt gratitude that we are comforted knowing our Great-grandma has another family who loves and cares for her at Embassy Manor.

I met nice people here, the recreation staff member Marisa greeted me with a welcome basket and was very friendly. She also went out of her way to get me a candy bar to make me feel welcomed. Also, the housekeeper Jeff made sure my room was clean and also helped me fill out my kitchen menu. I was only here for a couple of days; due to the fact that I wanted to smoke and this is a no smoking facility and the staff tried their hardest to not have me think about smoking and make this experience the best they could.

My mother is a resident of Embassy Manor. I am extremely pleased with the courtesy, care, and kindness the staff has provided. I want to express our thanks to many of the staff with whom we have had interactions. They have made this entire COVID year a little more tolerable in knowing my mother is comfortable and she is as happy as one can be during this time. I would like to acknowledge these members of the staff, Sharon Brown at the main entrance; Diana and Carol front office; Stefanie, Social Service; Minal and Omar, Recreation; Cleo and Emma , Nursing; Claire, Dietary; Jeannette, Laundry; and Israel, Maintenance. They have always been pleasant, helpful and followed through with my mother’s and my many requests. They have always been gracious and at times went above and beyond what we asked. They have helped with FaceTime, delivering candy and other items, helping with the numerous hearing aide problems and making sure I had contact with my mother during this COVID year. We will be doing outside visits soon again and I anticipate their assistance once again. Once again THANK YOU!

Hello, I am a Kean University student completing my internship at Embassy Manor in the recreation department. The director of the recreation department is Mrs. Minal Patel. Mrs. Patel is understanding with work and personal concerns. She is always willing and prepared to give assistance when assistance is needed in the recreation department and any other department within the facility. She is constantly seeking for opportunities to present the work of the recreation department by taking pictures of all holiday observances and celebrations to post online. The facility consists of a very diverse population of residents who receives recreation services for high and lower level residents to enjoy. Mrs. Patel assists the recreation therapists with displaying the best decorations. Mrs. Minal Patel takes her position as the recreation director very seriously and does her utmost best to fulfill all needs and wants of the residents! Thank you!
